#118 Getting To Know Colouring And Panel Design

I'm not very good with colours, and my knowledge of how to properly arrange panels is also quite abysmal. This was a short attempt to incorporate colours and panel design, just to do something else than the three-panel black and white strips I mainly do.

(There's no actual dialogue written for this page. Feel free to write one.)

Yet Another Sort Of Pointless Update

I have been drawing a few things lately, but I haven't really had time to upload anything. If you're a fan, eagerly awaiting my next post, well then you probably should start doing something else with your time and not sit around thinking about a half-assed webcomic that hasn't really produced any real comics in a while. If you're just wondering if I've quit drawing, then I'll just take this opportunity to tell you that I haven't.

Stuff coming soon. I did a four-page comic about how much I hate the "make me a sandwich woman" joke, so maybe you'll see that in a while. Possibly.

In other news, I love my job, I finally got my hands on some General Onyx, and I'll be going to Rome in a month with some people I care about quite a bit. Also, this time come next week, I'll actually have a diploma for being a barista. Whoop-de-doo.

#112 Down The Hatch

(Had a Fuller's Chiswick Bitter with this one. I was still in the mood for bitters, see. Quite enjoyed it. Earlier today I even bought a Nøgne ø Bitter, but I somehow forgot to take it with me when I left the store. My memory tends to focus on some things and my concentration tends to dwell on other things.)

Process Of Drawing The Comic "Watcher In The Water"

Thought I'd write down the process of creating a comic. Here goes.

  1. Mania sets in.
  2. Driving to Citymarket to get a Spitfire. (Kentish Ale, no bitters were found so this had to do.)
  3. Sitting down by the drawing table, pouring the Spitfire into a Spitfire glass.
  4. Selection of music made. First track is Joni Mitchell - A Case Of You.
  5. Cutting an appropriate piece of paper from a 600g sheet. Size and layout largely the same as "Impulses". Track one on repeat.
  6. Sketching different ideas. First one involves a little boy chasing a group of people.
  7. Stopped sketching, instead drawing the grid on the paper. Second Track is Martha Wainwright - Bloody Motherfucking Asshole
  8. Saying goodnight to the dog.
  9. Redoing the grid, altering the panel design.
  10. Third track is Sun Kil Moon - Lost Verses
  11. Happy with new paneling. Returning to sketches.
  12. Fourth track is Courtnee Draper - Will The Circle Be Unbroken
  13. Still sketching. Fifth track is Guy Clark - She Aint Going Nowhere
  14. Sixth track is The Heavy - Short Change Hero. I might be onto something here.
  15. Starting to figure out the story.  Seventh track is Iggy Pop - The Passenger
  16. Eight track is Genesis - Dancing With The Moonlit Knight. Character designs done.
  17. Changed my mind. Reworking story. Now features an old man and the sea.
  18. Ninth track is The Velvet Underground - Oh! Sweet Nuthin'.
  19. New story storyboarded. Not sure I like it. Reconsidering it. Out of Spitfire.
  20. Tenth track is Sun Kil Moon - Heron Blue.
  21. Settling on a final storyboard. Eleventh track is Colin Hay - I Just Dont Think I'll Ever Get Over You
  22. Drawing storyboard onto cut piece of paper. Twelvth track is The Beta Band - Dry The Rain
  23. Almost done drawing. Too many pencil strokes, might be a bitch to erase them. Thirteenth track is David Bowie - Heroes
  24. Sketching done. Preparing to apply watercolour. Fourteenth track is Al Green - How Can You Mend A Broken Heart. Realized it needs to be blue or a similiar colour, otherwise it wouldnt fit in. Annoying, since the first one also was blue. Oh well, nevermind.
  25. Panel 1 done. Fifteenth track: The Who - Who Are You
  26. Looked at "Impulses" again. Seems to have a hint of red in it. I think so. Faith in new comic restored. Thinking of a name. Sixteenth track is The Beta Band - Inner Meet Me
  27. Seventeeth track is Bright Eyes - Land Locked Blues. Colouring done. Happy with colour. Getting out mah ink.
  28. Eighteenth track is Regina Spektor - Field Below. Three first panels inked.
  29. Ninteenth track is Pearl Jam - Jeremy. Four more panels need to be inked. Still havent thought of a name.
  30. Done inking. Still needs a title in the first panel. Twentieth track is Bruce Springsteen - Mary Queen Of Arkansas
  31. Erasing pencil strokes. Looks alright. Thinking of a title.
  32. DONE.

#106 A Short Introduction To The Following Posts (And A Tinses Super-Adventure Comic)

I spent the last week in Brighton with friends, in pubs and cafés. We had a good time, I'd say.

With me, I had a small doodlepad made out of thin, weakly colored papers. I documented the entire trip with small doodles, portraits and comics featuring us doing whatever it is that we were doing.

You will not get to see those small doodles, portraits and comics.

What you get instead, are a series of batman comic strips, worried parent elephant comics and a few other pictures I decided to share with you guys. Almost exclusively to tinses.ratata.fi. That's how much I care about you guys. I love you guys. Not in a relationship way, in a best friends sort of way.

(Other than that I will add that if you happen to be in London at some point, you might want to go to the Cartoon Museum, which is just a block from the British National. I highly recommend it.)
